While the majority of lift tables are intended for stationary use, certain applications require the flexibility of a portable solution—particularly when the table must be relocated when loaded. At Pentalift, we offer a range of lift table portability options to match different applications and operational needs.
Standard Portable Lift Tables – Designed for Loaded Mobility
Portable lift tables are supplied with a sub-frame typically featuring two fixed casters and two swivel casters as standard. Casters are available with:
- Different wheel diameters depending on the capacity and application
- Phenolic, polyurethane, or cast iron
Optional step-down floor locks are also available, allowing the operator to engage or release the lock using foot pressure. By simply stepping down on the mechanism, the lift table is held in place offering a quick, ergonomic solution that provides additional stability during loading, unloading, or lifting operations.
Tip:  As the size and weight of the lift table increase, so does the effort required to push and stop it safely. Always move portable lift tables with the platform fully lowered and the load evenly distributed.
Low Profile Portability – Designed for Minimal “Closed” Height Applications
For applications where minimum lowered height is a priority, the wheels are mounted on the ends of the sub-frame rather than underneath. This configuration helps reduce the lowered height of the lift table, which can be beneficial in height-restricted applications. However, it also increases the overall length of the table, which may limit how closely it can be positioned to walls or adjacent equipment.
Semi-Portable Lift Tables – Designed for Unloaded Mobility
Semi-portable lift tables must be moved with the platform empty and in the fully lowered position.
- One end of the lift table frame features two load rollers, positioned just above floor level.
- The opposite end includes a welded tongue and a removable dolly handle.
When it is time to move the lift table:
- Lower the platform fully and ensure it is empty.
- Attach the dolly handle to lift one end of the frame off the floor.
- The lift table’s weight transfers to the load rollers on the opposite end, allowing it to be repositioned.
This process is similar to moving a pallet truck. As the size and weight of the lift table increase, so does the physical effort required to move it.
Note: To maintain stability, lift tables equipped with the semi-portable design should be operated only with an evenly distributed load on the platform.

Fork Pocket Portability
For quick and efficient relocation using a forklift, Pentalift offers fork pocket portability. Constructed from rigid steel tubing, welded to either the sides or the underside of the lift table’s lower frame.
Note: Â When fork pockets are welded under the frame, they increase the lowered height by 3 inches. Â In height-sensitive applications, Â it may be preferable to specify side-mounted fork pockets to maintain the original lowered height of the lift table.
Which Portability Option Is Right for You?
Each lift table mobility option offers different advantages based on:
- Frequency of movement
- Load handling needs
- Workspace layout
- Closed height requirements
Our team can help you choose the best configuration to meet your exact application.
