In the majority of applications lift tables are surface installed; they are placed and then lagged down into position directly on the building floor. In the fully lowered position the lift table sits above floor level. In this application as standard lift tables are provided with straight, vertical steel plates on the sides and ends on the platform, these vertical steel plates on the platform are referred to as straight toe guards.

However if the lift table is to be installed into a recessed pit (which allows the table platform to be at the same level of the floor when the lift is in the fully lowered position) the vertical, straight toe guards on the platform could create a shear/pinch point as the edges of the platform lowers into the recessed pit.

To address the possibility and prevent the operator from accidentally getting their foot or toes caught under a lowering platform the lift table can be equipped with optional beveled toe guards.

Beveled toe guards on the platform are steel plates that are sloped or angled inward at approximately 30 degrees. Beveling the 4 sided toe guards inward eliminates a potential straight up and down shear/pinch point as the platform lowers into the recessed pit.

This link shows an example of a lift table equipped with beveled toe guards on the platform.
