Interlocking loading dock equipment improves safety and reduces damage at the loading dock area by sequencing the order of equipment operation.
Pentalift offers a master control panel with all of the equipment controls located in one central, convenient location.
The most common equipment electrically interlocked at the loading dock involves a vehicle restraint that is interlocked to either a hydraulic or pneumatic operated dock leveler.
With a truck backed into position first the vehicle restraint is activated. Only if the vehicle restraint successfully engages with the trucks rear impact guard will the dock leveler operate. This interlock feature ensures that the truck is safely secured in position before the dock leveler is operated preventing an unscheduled vehicle departure.
Another example is a hydraulic or pneumatic dock leveler interlocked to an overhead door.
This electrical interlock prevents the dock leveler from being activated and damaging the closed, locked overhead door; with this interlock feature the dock leveler will only operate if the overhead door is first opened.
The majority of interlocked equipment has an override selector switch on the master control panel. When activated the override selector switch permits independent operation of the loading dock equipment once the user confirms that it is a safe, controlled condition.
