Hydraulic dock levelers typically come with a wall-mounted control featuring a single deck raise button. They can also be ordered with the optional auto-return to cross traffic or stored position feature.
Electrically Interlocked Vehicle Restraints
It is common for hydraulic dock levelers to be ordered with vehicle restraints that are electrically interlocked with the hydraulic dock leveler.
As opposed to having two individual control boxes — one to operate the hydraulic dock leveler and a separate panel for the vehicle restraint — a combined master control panel is provided.
Master Control Panel Advantages
The master control panel locates all of the loading dock equipment controls in one conveniently centralized location. Master control panels can be programmed to sequence the operation of the loading dock equipment.
For example, it is common to sequence the operation so that the vehicle restraint locks the trailer in position before the dock leveler will operate.
Additional benefits include:
- Reduces space required on the inside wall compared to individual control panels.
- Electrical installation costs are significantly reduced because generally only one primary electrical connection is required.
Expanded Control Integration
In addition to operating the dock leveler and vehicle restraint, provisions can be made within the master control panel to also house controls for:
- Overhead doors
- Inflatable dock seals
- Dock lights
- GFI receptacles
Overhead Door Interlock Kit
Hydraulic dock levelers are also available with an overhead door interlock kit. This kit prevents the dock leveler from operating until the overhead door is open, eliminating potential damage to a closed, locked overhead door if the dock leveler is accidentally activated.
