Vertical Dock Leveler Optional Accessories

Capacity is one of the most critical specifications to determine when selecting the dock leveler. It is extremely important to fully consider and properly calculate the appropriate capacity of a dock leveler needed for a specific application(s). Dock Leveler Width

Dock levelers are typically available in 6, 6.5 and 7 ft wide (nominal) sizing. The width of the dock leveler is dependent on the width of trucks being loaded / unloaded and configuration of loads. Wider dock levelers (7 ft wide) are becoming more common as trucks and trailers and their loads become wider.

Dock Leveler Length

Vertical storing dock levelers are typically available  6 and 8 ft long (nominal). The most common length for vertical storing dock levelers is 6 ft (nominal). The 8 ft (nominal length) is utilized when there is a significant height difference between the dock and the trucks and trailers.

Lip Length

There are three standard lengths of hydraulic dock leveler lips, 16”, 18", and 20".  The length of dock leveler lip required depends on various factors including but not limited to: the projection of the dock bumpers, types of trailers being serviced. Generally the lip should extend 12” past the dock bumpers.

Power Supply Voltages

The power supply voltages available include 115 and 220 volt single phase. 380 3 phase 50 hertz voltage is also available. 3 phase voltages are recommended where possible to avoid any line loss issues.

Individual Pit Installation

The vertical storing dock leveler is installed into a three sided pit. The advantage of this installation style is that the dock floor surface extends between the individual dock leveler pits, this permits easier pedestrian and fork lift traffic into the area between the dock levelers. It also facilitates storage between the dock leveler pits.

Continuous Pit Installation

A series of vertical storing dock levelers are installed on a continuous ledge. The main advantage of this type of installation is easier cleaning. The floor sweepers or other device can run the entire ledge floor faster, and offer higher quality cleaning. In certain applications the ledge will also allow trailer doors to be opened after the trailer has been properly positioned at the dock.



Continuous Pit Installation



A limit switch and a mechanism for activating the limit switch by the overhead door is provided. This interlock prevents the dock leveler from being activated if and when the overhead door is positioned in the operating path of the hydraulic dock leveler. This option avoids damage to the OHD door by the hydraulic dock leveler. [more]

Vehicle Restraint Interlock

A combination control panel is provided and operates the hydraulic dock leveler and the vehicle restraint from a single panel. The hydraulic dock leveler is interlocked to the vehicle restraint. The hydraulic dock leveler cannot operate until the truck / trailer has been properly engaged by the vehicle restraint.

A combination control panel is provided. A single control panel operates the inflatable dock seal or shelter, hydraulic dock leveler and / or vehicle restraint. The inflatable dock seal or shelter are connected to only activate when the dock leveler or vehicle restraint are in a predetermined state of use. . [more]

Tapered Lip

The dock leveler lip is tapered narrower on the end that is positioned on the truck. This option was required more in the past when 7ft wide dock levelers we to be utilized and when trailers were generally narrower than today. Tapering of the lip reduces the effective width of the dock leveler and is not required in most cases.





A very durable bumper with laminated bumper sections behind a plate steel bumper face which absorbs the impact of the trailer as it backs into the facility. The steel face surface facilitates truck float with minimum wear and tear to the bumper. An excellent solution for harsh loading dock environments. [more]

Epoxy Finish

Utilized to provide an upgraded level of paint finish for more demanding environments.



Hot dipped galvanizing is a coating that is applied to metal to provide  unmatched corrosion protection and resistance. Hot dip galvanizing is well suited to vertical storing dock levelers that will be utilized in wash down applications. [more]

Warning Buzzer

The warning buzzer rings for 10 seconds any time the vertical storing dock leveler is activated to be lowered.




Bottom Pad

The bottom pad is attached to the underside of the dock leveler deck. When the dock leveler is lowered to load or unload the truck the pad blocks the passage of air from outside the building, underneath the dock leveler and into the building. It provides energy savings.

Lip Hinge Grease Fittings

Lip hinge grease fittings facilitate the application of grease to the dock leveler lip hinge.

Curb Angle Assembly

Steel angle iron with tab anchors welded along it are provided and embed into the edges of the dock leveler pit. The curb angle provides a metal edge to weld the dock leveler to during installation as well as protects the pit edges from breaking away during fork lift roller over.

Foam Insulation

The primary purpose of foam insulation is to reduce condensation on the dock leveler deck surface due to significant temperature differences from inside to outside. This condensation can cause traction for fork lifts and dock workers to be compromised. This can create a safety concern. Foam is also used as an energy saving option limiting the transfer of conditioned air temperature between inside the facility and outside.




Low Temperature Oil

This oil has a lower operating temperature range than the standard oil. It is recommended for use on equipment that is subject to extremely low temperatures.
