What are the guidelines to install a lift table into a pit? This is a frequently asked question. The idea is to address the safety and well-being of anyone that might come within close proximity of the lift table when it is in operation. When the lift table is lowering into the pit there must be protection to avoid a potential pinch point if a person is standing close by. The appropriate methods for providing toe protection when a lift table is installed in a pit are laid out in ANSI MH29.1, Safety Requirements for Industrial Scissors Lifts. The two most common solutions are to provide a physical alert through installation of a 30° bevel toe guard, or to provide a toe sensor that will automatically halt the movement of the table if it comes in contact with any interference.
