What to Look for When Purchasing a Dock Lift.

When selecting a dock lift, you want to make sure you find the most appropriate one for your application. The 5 main things to look for when choosing a dock lift would be whether the equipment is going to be floor mounted or pit installed, platform dimensions, what the lifting and roll over capacities will be, bridge lengths and what voltage will be offered to the dock lift at the place of installation. The manufacturer needs to know whether the equipment is going to be pit installed or placed on the floor so that the correct safety features can be incorporated. The manufacturer must also know what platform size and the required capacity of the equipment to ensure safe and stable use in the work area. A dock lift manufacturer must also know the distance a truck will be from the dock lift when loading and unloading, to ensure the correct bridges are equipped for safe and sturdy use. A manufacturer must also know the available supply voltage to ensure the right power unit is equipped for the dock lift. While there may be additional detail questions, most dock equipment manufactures will be able to supply at least a concept and budget price once they have the above information.

Characteristics of Tandem Lift Tables.

A Tandem Lift Table is a table that is used for an application in which the platform’s length needs to be much longer than the platform’s width. Tandem Lift Tables are generally used to assist lengthy and narrow applications such as long pieces of wood, 2x4’s or hydro poles. To support the oversized load, there are 2 sets of scissor legs under the table’s platform to accommodate the load it is lifting. Tandem lift tables cost more than standard lift tables but are the perfect piece of equipment for certain applications.

What Are The Different Operating Choices For Lift Tables?

There are 3 different operating types of lift tables. They are hydraulic, pneumatic and self leveling. All 3 styles are different but have their benefits, depending on what the application is. Hydraulic lift tables offer the widest range of features and customization regarding platform size, capacity, vertical travel, and safety features. Pneumatic lift tables are offered in an air bag design which is limited to 24” of travel. The air bag lift tables may be limited but if an airline is the only power source available to run the lift table, an air motor running a hydraulic system is available. Pneumatic lift tables are commonly used in wash down or areas where electrical sparking can cause a concern. Self leveling lift tables are mostly used for ergonomic applications. Self leveling lift tables require no power at all but do require a fork truck in order to load or unload the full pallet.
